Why modern talent values speed, authenticity, and connection over paperwork.
As a recruiter, I’ve read more than my fair share of motivation letters. Pages filled with carefully crafted phrases, recycled buzzwords, and well-meaning lines like “I am passionate about working in a dynamic environment.” But here’s the thing: in 2025, this isn’t what candidates want anymore — especially not Generation Z.
And honestly? I get it.
Born between 1990 and 2010, Gen Z grew up in a world of constant digital connection, authentic online voices, and a strong sense of individuality. When they apply for a job, they’re not looking to prove themselves through outdated formalities. They want something that feels genuine, human, and aligned with how they live and communicate.
No Motivation Letter? No Problem.
At Btogether, we’re seeing more and more Gen Z candidates reaching out to us through platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn. They don’t send long documents or formal emails. Often, it’s just a short message that says something like:
“Hey, I saw your job post. This sounds exciting. Want to have a chat?”
Our answer is almost always the same: Yes, we’d love to.
Behind that informal message is often a thoughtful, motivated individual who simply doesn’t see the value in writing a traditional cover letter — and we don’t blame them. The world has moved on, and recruitment should too.
An Application Shouldn’t Feel Like a Test
To Gen Z, applying for a job should feel like a conversation, not an exam. They’re not just interested in job titles or checklists of responsibilities. They want to understand what a company actually stands for. Not only that, but they want to get a feel for the team, the work culture, and what their day-to-day life might look like.
That’s why we work hard to keep our process personal and transparent. We share real stories from employees, behind-the-scenes insights, and honest answers to real questions. If we’re asking candidates to open up about their career goals, it only makes sense that we open up about who we are too.
Quick, Digital, but Never Impersonal
We’ve made the application process easier on purpose. At Btogether, you don’t need to write a motivation letter. You can apply on your phone in just a few minutes. You can contact us directly — no complicated portals, no unnecessary steps.
But we never sacrifice the personal touch. Whether it’s a quick video call, a voice message, or a thoughtful reply, we always make the effort to connect. Behind every application is a person with goals, concerns, and hopes — and we treat them that way.
What Gen Z Is Teaching Us
What’s exciting is that Gen Z isn’t lowering the bar — they’re raising it. They’re reminding us that recruitment is about people, not paperwork. They’re encouraging companies to be more open, more flexible, and more real — and that’s a change we welcome.
As recruiters, we’re not here to gate keep. We’re here to connect the right people with the right opportunities. And for this generation, that connection often starts with something as simple as a message — not a four-page PDF.
